Taking our lab services on line - chapter 5
Now let's talk about the specifics of using Silverwire,
the lab ordering system we had chosen.
I had to fill out a multipage form – really an
elaborate checklist – to be sure that we had the necessary hardware and
internet connections. It also contained a detailed checklist for the
services we offered.
We
furnished them with two graphic images, 160 pixels wide and 300 pixels high.
These panels appear at certain points during the ordering process as the
customer is processing the order. To the right is one of the panels I
designed in Adobe Photo Shop. Naturally you want to be sure that you use
only images to which you own the reproduction rights. In my case there are a
couple of photos I took in Seattle, a picture of my granddaughter, stock art
of a Canon digital camera, and IPI's logo for Certified Digital Photo
Processors. And yes, I am listed as a CDPP lab!
Brian at Silverwire told me that getting this
information from new customers is often the toughest part of his job. Many
installations have been delayed simply because the labs didn’t submit the
graphics as requested.
I believe it. For me, that was also one of the delays.
Finally we had done all we needed to do at our end. I
contacted Brian at Silverwire and made an appointment to do the actual
installation.
