MMIE #331 - When you've got it, flaunt it
  January 28, 2010

  Hello

I think Andrea Dromm said that, in a series of ads for a now-defunct airline. Our first Idea this month shows how Bruce Laumeister of Vermont Color is flaunting his gifting ideas in a display that goes on forever.

Less pretty than actress Andrea Dromm, but with a much longer career in his chosen field, is Fred Lerner. Lerner was President of PMA in 2006-2006, and will be honored next month at the United Nations in Manhattan. Here's the press release:

The International Photographic Council (IPC), a non-governmental organization of the United Nations, has bestowed its highest honor, the annual Hall of Fame Award upon Fred H. Lerner, Co-founder, President, CEO, and Director of Ritz Interactive, Inc.

A presentation will be held during the IPC Annual Hall of Fame Luncheon at the United Nations in New York City on February 11, 2010.

IPC President James Chung will deliver opening remarks. Ted Fox, Executive Director of PMA, will present the keynote address.

Ted McGrath, President and CEO of T.M. Associates and IPC Industry Leadership Award Honoree in 1999, will introduce Fred Lerner.

For luncheon information or reservations, please contact James Chung at jchung1@prodigy.net or 914.476.1712. Seating is limited.

Idea # 1 - It's not as big as the Great Wall of China (quite)

Bruce Laumeister - Vermont Color/Photographer's Eye - Manchester, VT, USA - http://www.vermontcolor.com

Click here to see a much bigger image.

Our "killer wall" of more than 50 different personal photo gifts continues to produce more than $100/day of orders AND it's not really gift season yet.

Friday was a good as any other prime day.

We also feature on the color wall 12" x 4' banners like "Happy birthday" and "Welcome Home". For our paying customers we gladly elaborate with photos and other graphics.

If you've got it - if you can do it - flaunt it. If you don't show it, the customers won't know it!

Idea #2 - Cover it up with a sign that shows what you do.

Chris Lydle - Chris' Camera Center, Aiken, SC USA - www.chriscamera.com

In early January we lost our convenient upstairs storage space. The tenant next door had a spat with the landlord, and the access stairway went through her shop. So the landlord locked off the staircase and we had to bring everything out and find a space for it.

With only a couple of days to absorb 7 years worth of "stuff" I think we did pretty well. But to add to the sheer bulk, Meade shipped in - too late for Christmas sales - the big telescopes we had ordered in July.

In desperation I shoved the ugly shipping boxes into the front window and printed out a 24" x 78" vertical sign to mask them. Because we've just started doing Photo Booth services, I made the sign in the form of a stylized Photo Booth.

Read more about photo booth projects in our archives MMIE #325 (about Dan's Camera and their photo booth project) and MMIE #330(about the Chris' Camera Center project)

We also ran a "Lost Our Storage Space" ad, where anything over 16" in one or more dimensions was 20% off. And we sent an email on the same topic.

Any excuse for an ad - we were soon ripping those telescope boxes back out of the window!

Idea 3 - Last chance to save $100 on PMA events

February 1 - that's when the $100 savings on the All Conference Connection Pass, which includes the AIE Output Summit, ends. Register before it's too late.

If you're going to Anaheim, the biggest reason to go is because of the educational events. And you can go to just about everything for $199. Register here

About the consumer event: What the Duck is that about?

Yes, there's going to be a big consumer camera show in the same complex on Saturday. It's not in the same hall, and it's not that consumers are going to be wandering around the PMA/DIMA trade show!

It's called the Southern California Photo Expo, and it's one day only - Saturday, February 20, 2010. Live demonstrations, free workshops, drawings, and giveaways are some of the highlights of the family-friendly one-day event. Visit www.funphotoexpo.com for more information.
