All the Best, Bill about David Guidry - Lakeside Camera and
Video - Metarie, LA -
www.lakesidecamera.com There's a verse in a Martina McBride
song: "You can spend your whole life
building - something from nothing - one
storm can come and wash it all away." That's exactly what happened to the
Guidry family when Hurricane Katrina hit the
New Orleans area.
When David Guidry was honored as PTN's
Dealer of the Year during PMA 2006, he made
a very moving acceptance speech. He admitted
that Katrina was a huge challenge to him and
his family, and that it was the opportunity
to change his entire life and career.
Rebuilding in an industry that has faced so
many disruptive changes wouldn't be easy -
but there was nothing in life that he would
rather do!
PMA Newsline this week quoted an article
in
New Orleans Magazine in which Lakeside
Camera was honored in the magazine's "annual
pursuit of the year's best new architecture"
According to the article "Except for its
location and general massing, Lakeside
Camera Photoworks is new in every way. "The public zone is perhaps the most
innovative. In the words of architect Errol
Barron, ". . . one is not so much a customer
as a participant." "One comes here to do things as well as
buy things. There are computer work stations
linked to kid corrals, play areas with low
enclosures close to Mom as she works on a
scrapbook of last week's birthday party. The
kiosks are organized but with bit of
randomness, kind of like . . . floating!
Yes, there's a flood related theme."
The finishing counter at Lakeside
Camera Photoworks even looks like a boat.

Customers working at the kiosks have a
modicum of privacy, yet can easily check out
their youngsters at play in an adjacent
kiddy corral. LeMoyne Johnson - Johnson Photo Imaging -

www.jpiphoto.com Hi Bill, Here my second idea which would help
those stores who have a portrait studio. We have just purchased card printers to
do ID cards for high schools. But in
thinking of other ways to use them, I have
thought about printing our own custom
extremely small run gift cards targeting a
special promotion. Then in talking with our customers,
particularly women, I asked about the
difference between coupons and a gift card.
Almost all of them might save a paper coupon
but they usually got thrown away. However,
ALL of them said they would keep gift cards
and ALWAYS spend them. We have noticed a significant decline in
the glamour shoots discussed above (with a
nice paper coupon/certificate) I will be
replacing them with gift cards and see how
this goes. We are also just starting to use the gift
cards for portrait sessions and hope this
will be really helpful. When a customer
brings a new baby (and baby pictures) into
the store we will be giving them a gift card
for a "free" baby portrait session to get
them started in the cycle. Should know
within 6 months if this works. We are also working with an internet
based company called Experion which can get
names of pregnant women. We will be sending
out gift cards to them for a Maternity
session and a free newborn portrait. Hope these ideas help someone else! The Northwest Division meets Friday,
