Southern barbecue in Atlanta, prepared by Chris' sons

The saga continues: Week 5

What happened to week 4?

We took a buying trip to the Town and Country Dealer Group Show outside Philadelphia. Visited Chris' Camera Center in New Jersey. Went to Myrtle Beach.

While I was away the electrician and handyman got the fans up and running. The ceiling is an old tin pressed ceiling. About 10 square feet was missing and it was all painted green. David Dixon replaced the missing parts and painted the whole thing black. It looks pretty sharp.

He also repainted the inside and the show windows white, with a rich dark blue above eye level.

The day I got back, we hired a 25-foot diesel truck with a lift gate and went to pick up the showcases I was buying (described last week.) The central unit has to weigh about 900 pounds!

Some of the unexpected costs of doing business: Driving the huge truck I clipped a parked car with the wheel. Didn't quite do the damage that the Bigfoot truck would, but enough to cost some money.

The awning has been taken away for remanufacture and recovering. The landlord did some repairs to the front and the bathroom floor. My checklist gets some things added each day, and some "X" marks are added to signify what's been completed. I keep wondering what I've forgotten.

Now we're down to 32 days until the opening, and the clock is ticking. Catalogs from vendors are arriving everyday. I've placed a lot of orders to take advantage of fall specials, many of which will come to an end September 30th.

Check back next week. Any suggestions? E-mail them to me.

Next week the physical storefront starts coming together.
